Bloem Retail Front

This Bloemfontein retail front got a full refresh with a new fascia sign, window graphics and door decals. The work was planned for daily trade, sun exposure and a tight install window, with all items produced and fitted locally from our Hamilton base.

What the client needed on a busy street front

The brief came from a retail tenant in Bloemfontein that needed the shop front to look sharper from the road and more organised at the entrance. The store had a plain fascia, tired window branding and a door that was doing nothing for the first impression, so the client wanted one clear visual system across the whole frontage.

We were asked to keep the message simple, make the shop easy to spot from passing traffic, and avoid anything that would block natural light into the sales area. The frontage also sits in a part of town that gets strong afternoon sun, so fading and edge lift had to be considered from the start. The owner wanted something clean, practical and easy to maintain, not a busy mix of colours and fonts.

Because the site trades during the day, we also had to work around customer movement, parking and access at the entrance. That meant measuring carefully, preparing artwork off site and scheduling the install so the team could keep the disruption short.

Surveying the façade and setting the artwork right

We started with a site survey at the Bloemfontein store to confirm fascia size, glass areas, door panel dimensions and the condition of the mounting surfaces. The fascia had a few small irregularities and the window frames needed a full clean down before application, which is fairly common on street-facing retail units after dust, wind and traffic grime.

Our graphic designer redrew the logo for print and cut work, then set the artwork to suit the actual measurements on site. That part matters because retail signage only looks right when the spacing, letter height and sight lines are matched to the building. The client supplied a basic brand direction, and we converted it into production-ready artwork with clear margins and consistent colour breaks.

  • Fascia measured for a finished sign panel of 4.8 m x 0.75 m
  • Window graphics planned for three street-facing panes at different heights
  • Door decals set to allow for handles, hinges and daily use
  • Artwork prepared for both print production and vinyl cutting

What we supplied for the storefront refresh

The project covered three main elements. First was the fascia sign, produced as a printed and laminated panel for the main shop name and key service line. Second was the window graphics, which added privacy in selected areas while still keeping enough visibility into the store. Third was the door decals, used to carry the same visual language through the entrance so the front felt joined up rather than pieced together.

We used materials suited to Bloemfontein conditions, where the air is dry, UV exposure is strong and dust can settle quickly on exposed surfaces. The graphics were finished for day-to-day retail cleaning and chosen to hold up through load-shedding related shutdowns as well, when shops may rely on natural light and need the branding to still read clearly. The shop front had to work in bright sun and overcast weather, with no loss of contrast.

  • 1 fascia sign panel with full-colour print and protective lamination
  • Window graphics for branding, service wording and selective opacity
  • Door decals aligned to entrance height and handle clearance
  • All material cut, prepared and packed for local installation

Installation day in Bloemfontein

Installation was completed over a single coordinated visit after production was signed off. Johan handled the sign setting and final fit on site, while Kagiso managed the vehicle style alignment principles on the door and glass work so the edges stayed clean and straight. Lerato oversaw production checks before the team left the workshop, and Annelie kept the client updated on timing and access. A quick check of the site conditions on the day helped us avoid dust and bubbles, which makes a big difference on retail glass.

The fascia was mounted first, then the window graphics were applied using a wet installation method where needed, and the door decals were placed last so the final alignment matched the entrance movement. The whole job was planned to keep the front usable throughout most of the day, with only brief pauses while the high-visibility work was being set. Small details, like edge trimming and final cleaning, were handled on site before handover.

Timeline wise, the project ran over 2 weeks from survey to install. That included measurement, artwork redraws, production, curing time and a final fit. There was one minor adjustment on site to a window panel size, but it was sorted without delaying the handover.

The result on the street and inside the entrance

The refreshed frontage gave the store a cleaner presence from the road and made the entrance easier to read at a glance. The fascia now carries the main identity with enough size for passing traffic, while the window film reduces visual clutter and gives the glazing a tidy finish. The door decals now carry the same look through to the entry point, which makes the front feel intentional rather than patched together.

For the client, the biggest gain was consistency. The same colours, shapes and spacing now run across all three surfaces, which helps the business look settled and professional. Customers coming from the pavement or car park get a better first read of the store, and the staff no longer have to work around outdated graphics that were fading and peeling. It is a small front but it now does the job properly.

From our side, this is the kind of retail work we like to repeat because it balances design, manufacturing and neat site work. We would do the same process again for a similar Bloemfontein store: survey first, redraw the artwork to the real sizes, and install in one planned visit so the shop loses as little trading time as possible.

Why this kind of retail work suits our Bloemfontein team

Central Signs handles this type of project often across Bloemfontein, Mangaung, Botshabelo, Thaba Nchu, Welkom and Kroonstad. For retail fronts, the main value is not just making something bright. It is making sure the sign fits the building, survives the weather and still looks right after a few months of sun, cleaning and daily use.

Our Hamilton base makes it practical to survey, produce and install locally. That matters when a client needs a quick turnaround, or when the frontage has to stay open for trade. The team behind this project included Marius Jacobus van Rensburg, Lerato Molefe, Johan Smit, Zanele Dlamini, Kagiso Moeketsi, Annelie Botha and Thabo Ncgobo, each handling a specific part of the job from artwork to fitment. Good signage is never only about the final print, it is about getting the sequence right from the start.

Questions we get asked

Can you do a retail front like this for a small store?

Yes. We size the fascia, glass and door graphics to suit the actual frontage, even if the shop is compact. Small stores often benefit most from clear, well placed signage because every metre counts.

How long does a storefront refresh usually take?

A simple front can be turned around in about 1 to 2 weeks, depending on artwork approval, material choice and site access. If the glass needs extra prep or the sign needs fabrication, we allow more time.

Do you work outside Bloemfontein too?

Yes, we work across Mangaung, Botshabelo, Thaba Nchu, Welkom and Kroonstad, with other nearby towns by arrangement. We can handle survey, production and installation as a single job.
