Measure-Up Request

A proper measure-up saves time, cuts rework and helps us plan the right fixing method for your signs, graphics or displays. If you are in Bloemfontein, Mangaung, Botshabelo, Thaba Nchu, Welkom or Kroonstad, we can arrange a site visit and work from real site conditions.

What We Check During a Measure-Up

A measure-up is more than taking lengths and heights. We look at the surface, access, fixing points, light levels and any nearby services that may affect installation. That includes plastered walls, painted brick, glass, aluminium frames, roller shutters, paving, roller doors and vehicle panels. We also check for load-shedding related issues, such as whether the sign needs to read clearly without backlit power, or if a daytime-only solution is a better fit.

For exterior work in Bloemfontein and surrounding towns, wind exposure and dust matter as well. Coastal humidity is not a factor here, but sun, heat and winter cold still affect adhesive choice, vinyl life and the way a panel sits over time. If the surface is uneven or freshly painted, we will flag it before any production starts.

How to Request a Site Visit

Use the enquiry form on our contact page and tell us what you need measured. Include the site address, the type of sign or graphic, and whether the job is for a window, wall, door, floor, vehicle or exhibition setup. If you already have a logo file, artwork, sketch or photo, add that too. If not, we can still work from site notes and measurements.

To help us schedule the right person, mention the area and any site rules such as access control, working hours, safety induction, or landlord approval. A shopping centre, school, municipal building and workshop all have different rules, so the more detail you give, the faster we can plan. One small missing detail can hold up the whole job, so we ask for as much as possible up front.

  • Site name and suburb
  • Type of sign or graphic needed
  • Preferred time for the visit
  • Any access restrictions or permits
  • Photos of the area if available

What Happens When We Arrive

Our team arrives prepared to measure the site accurately and assess how the work will be fixed. Depending on the job, that may include measuring panels, checking wall plumb, noting glass sizes, looking at floor condition or measuring vehicle body sections for graphics. We also confirm where ladders, scaffolding or access equipment may be needed.

Where necessary, we record the usable area and any obstacles such as lights, pipes, fire equipment, frames, switches or uneven brickwork. Johan Smit handles careful installation planning on site, while Lerato Molefe checks production considerations and Thabo Ncgobo looks at fabrication practicalities. If the project involves branding across several units or vehicles, Kagiso Moeketsi notes repeat sizes so the finish stays consistent.

Why Surface Checks Matter Before Production

A sign can be measured correctly and still fail if the surface is not suitable. Paint that is too fresh, dusty walls, weak plaster, scratched glass or oil on a panel can all cause trouble later. We check these issues before cutting vinyl or fabricating hardware, because it is far easier to plan around a problem than to fix it after installation.

We also look at maintenance needs. For example, a sign in a busy retail area may need a removable panel for future changes, while a vehicle graphic on a courier bakkie may need extra edge sealing. If the job will be exposed to direct sun in summer or repeated cleaning, we can suggest a finish that suits the use and the budget.

  • Surface condition and cleanliness
  • Paint age and adhesion risk
  • Fixing points and anchor strength
  • Weather exposure and glare
  • Future access for repairs or updates

From Measure-Up to Installation Planning

After the visit, we use the measurements to plan artwork sizes, print allowances and fixing methods. That helps with banners, shop signs, decals, labels, wall graphics, floor graphics and exhibition displays. If the artwork needs resizing, Zanele Dlamini can set up the layout to fit the real dimensions, and if the logo needs cleaning up or redrawing, we handle that before print production begins.

Once the plan is confirmed, we can schedule fabrication, vinyl cutting, lamination, and installation in a practical order. This keeps the job moving and reduces delays on site. It also helps when a client has several locations, such as Bloemfontein plus Botshabelo or Kroonstad, because measurements can be matched across all branches.

Areas We Cover Around Bloemfontein

Central Signs works from our Hamilton base in Bloemfontein and measures sites across Mangaung and nearby towns. We assist with shopfronts, offices, warehouses, schools, forecourts, clinics and industrial sites. Whether you need one sign or a full roll-out, we can arrange a visit where the work is needed.

Our regular areas include Bloemfontein, Mangaung, Botshabelo, Thaba Nchu, Welkom and Kroonstad, with support for Brandfort and Winburg too. If the job is outside the main route, mention it in the enquiry and we will advise on timing. For most clients, a proper measure-up at the start is the simplest way to avoid guesswork later.

Questions we get asked

Do I need a measure-up before every sign job?

Not always, but it is strongly recommended for new sites, larger signs, vehicle graphics, or any job where surface condition and exact fit matter.

Can you measure more than one area on the same visit?

Yes. If you have multiple windows, walls, doors or vehicles at one site, we can measure those during the same visit and plan them together.

What should I have ready before you visit?

Please have the site address, contact person, type of signage needed, and any photos or drawings you have. If there are site rules or access limits, send those too.
